The Little Red River is stocked by the US Department of the Interior's fish hatchery in Heber Springs. In 1992, the world record brown trout, weighing 40.4 lbs., was caught near the Swinging Bridge. Scientists captured and weighed the world's largest walleye in the Greers Ferry Lake, which is nestled in the foothills of the scenic north central Arkansas Ozark Mountains. Greers Ferry Dam spans the Little Red River and is stocked with almost every known game fish native to the state.
